Flood resilience work in Ynysboeth using Welsh Government funding

The Council will shortly start two local schemes in Ynysboeth to improve the area’s resilience to flooding – delivering both schemes together over the weeks ahead.

The works will focus on the area around Nant y Fedw and the nearby section of B4275 Abercynon Road (near the bus stop on the main road).

The scheme will get underway from Monday, October 23, using funding secured from two separate Welsh Government programmes.

Culvert improvements at Nant y Fedw will upgrade the existing inlet structure and install a debris basin to reduce the probably of blockages during heavy rainfall. This element of the work has secured funding from the Resilient Roads Grant programme.

Work will also be carried out to install a maintenance platform, which will help access the watercourse channel and grille for their future upkeep and repair. This element of the work will be delivered through the Small Scale Works Grant programme.

Both schemes will be carried out by the RCT Streetcare Team and its sub-contractor Hammonds Ltd over the next nine weeks.

Portable traffic signals will be used at Abercynon Road, reducing traffic flow to one lane for the duration of the scheme.

Thanks to the community for your cooperation in advance.
