On Friday, November 8, Mrs Heidi Bryant Miles from Ysgol Gyfun Rhydywaun was awarded the Inspiring SENCO Award for her and her teams hard work and dedication in supporting children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
Mrs Heidi Bryant Miles is the Additional Learning Needs Coordinator for Ysgol Rhydywaun and accepted the award from the British Dyslexia Association at the award ceremony in London, on behalf of Team Hafan for their dedication, care, and support to the ALN children at the school, particularly children with dyslexia.
The Inspiring SENCO Award is awarded to a Special Educational Needs Coordinator or Additional Learning Needs Coordinator who enriches the lives of children every day. Providing understanding, reassurance and specialist knowledge to every child entrusted to their care, which is what Mrs Bryant Miles and Team Hafan have been doing for the pupils of Ysgol Rhydywaun.
Lisa Williams, Headteacher of Ysgol Rhydywaun, said: “The work Heidi does is linked to ensuring access to the curriculum and necessary resources to assist the pupils in their lessons. Heidi also ensures that interventions are in place to help our pupils by linking them to one of our expert practitioners in the Hafan, which is our ALN / SEBD (Social, Emotional or Behaviour difficulties) department within the school. We are extremely proud of her and the whole team, this award is absolutely deserved.”
Councillor Rhys Lewis, Rhondda Cynon Taf Councils Cabinet Member for Education, Inclusion and The Welsh Language, said: “We are extremely proud of Heidi and the rest of the Hafan team at Ysgol Rhydywaun, this award recognises the hard work, dedication and care that each ALN child receives every day. The work does not go unnoticed, and we are so pleased to see it recognised in this way, well done and thank you to Heidi and the Team.”
