The fun swims offer babies and toddlers (and their parents or carers!) the chance to enjoy safe and entertaining sessions in the water, building confidence and getting the tots used to being in a pool.
There are colourful water toys and games and even baby friendly music and nursery rhymes playing in the background.
The sessions build on a successful pilot held by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Sport RCT team in October to mark Baby Swim Week. They were such a success, Sport RCT and Leisure for Life have joined forces to make them a permanent fixture on swimming pool timetables.
Baby Swim sessions are aimed at babies and toddlers aged from three months to four years old. Running for around an hour and led by qualified instructors, they have fun, colourful toys and games and music to help parents or carers and the baby build confidence in the water.
The new sessions will take place as per the below:
Baby Swim sessions are £5.45 per family unit (two adults, one baby or toddler) or free if you are a Leisure for Life member.
Cllr Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure, said: “Our Leisure for Life and Sport RCT teams have worked for many years to create a safe and professional environment in which our young residents can begin their swimming pathway.
“This includes learning through the Splash and Wave lessons and then progressing, if they wish, into rookie lifeguarding, diving and even performance swim squads – we are so proud of our generations of talented, confident water babies!
“Baby Swim Week was a huge success and our thanks go to the parents and carers who supported us so enthusiastically. We know they had a great time in the sessions, introducing the babies and toddlers to the water, developing their bond and confidence and, hopefully, starting a new journey of skills and confidence in the water.
“We are pleased to respond to that success by introducing even more Baby Swim sessions as permanent timetable fixtures at our range of lovely Leisure for Life pools.”
