Carers Rights Day 2023: Recognising and Supporting Carers in the Community

Having caring responsibilities can be demanding, but having access to the right information at the right time can make all the difference. This Carers Right’s Day we will be holding an event to help you to get the information and support you need!

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council will be supporting this year’s Carers Rights Day, which is on Thursday 23 November. This important day helps carers across the UK to find out more about their rights and entitlements and aims to promote information to carers on how and where to get the support they need.

To mark the occasion, the Council are hosting an event on Thursday 23 November, from 10am to 3pm, at YMa, Taff Street, Pontypridd, CF37 4TS (old YMCA Building). All local carers are encouraged to attend.

The theme this year is ‘Recognising and Supporting Carers in the Community’, and is about ensuring that unpaid family carers are recognised and supported in all areas of life.

Councillor Gareth Caple, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care at Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said: “Rhondda Cynon Taf Council recognises that we have many unpaid carers living throughout the County Borough, many of whom are not aware of the types of help and support that they can access.

“Carers are often carrying out their care duties alongside other commitments, and it can become difficult for them to balance this with their work. Carers Rights Day aims to alleviate some of these struggles by signposting carers to the relevant information and providing them with additional support.

“I urge all local carers, both paid and unpaid, to join us for our event on 23 November. This is an opportunity for the Council to show our appreciation for the work of unpaid carers throughout our community and ensure that they can access advice and support.”

Many organisations will be attending the Council’s event to provide information and advice, including those from social care, health services, local support groups, and many more. Regardless of your personal situation, or the unique needs of the person you are looking after, there will be something for everyone. Some of the organisations attending include:
