Lido Ponty Cold Water Swims

After a hugely successful pilot last year, cold-water swims will return to Lido Ponty on October 21. The water temperature will be set at a reduced 15 degrees and weekend sessions will be filled with adventurous swimmers.

The cold-water swims attracted visitors from across the UK last year, from casual dips to those in training for competitions. It is hoped they will return for 2023.

Tickets for cold water swims will go on sale at 9am on Wednesday, October 4 on www.lidoponty.co.uk

The main summer season of Lido Ponty is ending. The school holiday timetable – two early morning swims and then six family fun sessions, where the inflatables are out – finished on Monday, September 4.

From Tuesday, September 5 the timetable includes two early morning swim sessions only on weekdays, and then two early morning swims and six family fun sessions on weekends.

On Sunday, September 17, Lido Ponty will close its doors and preparations for the cold water swims will begin.

At the end of the cold water swims, a date for which has not been confirmed, the water temperatures will return to 28 degrees for the Boxing Day and New Year’s Day events.

Cllr Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure, said: “After a beautiful start to the 2023 Lido Ponty season, we didn’t have much of a Summer in terms of the weather.

“However, the fun didn’t stop at Lido Ponty and it was great to see people travel from all over to bathe in the heated waters and take on the activities, including the inflatable obstacle course, water zorb and boats.

“Set in the heart of the beautiful Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, which is home to the Eisteddfod 2024, there really is nothing quite like Lido Ponty anywhere else in Wales.

“We have welcomed 106,000 visitors to the Lido this year to date.”
