RCT Council is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week!

National Apprenticeship Week takes place from 5 to 11 February 2024. It brings together everyone passionate about apprenticeships to celebrate the value, benefit and opportunity that they bring.

The theme for this year’s National Apprenticeship Week is “Skills for Life”. Organisations around the UK encourage everyone to consider how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career, and employers to develop a workforce with future ready skills.

RCT Council have been offering apprenticeships since 2012 and have seen 78% of these continue to secure employment within the Council, and 13% externally.

In 2022, the Council was awarded the Princess Royal Training Award for the success of the Apprenticeship Scheme, which was presented by Princess Ann. The award honours employers who have created outstanding training and skills development programmes.

The Council has recently seen Henry Jones, who has completed 2 Apprenticeships with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, one in Business Administration and one in Highways, secure a Highways Inspector role in the Council’s Dinas Depot, and has been awarded the Tomorrow’s Talent Apprenticeship Award in Skills Academy Wales Partnership Awards.

The Council will be announcing the next round of Apprenticeship opportunities during the Spring.

Councillor Maureen Webber, Deputy Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said:

“The Council’s Apprenticeship and Graduate Schemes have proven to be hugely successful every year.

“As one of the largest employers in the local area, we recognise the importance of creating high-quality, well-paid jobs, with learning opportunities, for our residents – and it has never been more important than now.

“The Council provides a wide array of services, and our apprentice and graduate opportunities reflect this with posts available in areas ranging from environment, mechanics, accountancy and digital.”
